Residents will gather Saturday in Youngwood to spread good cheer and kick off the holiday season with the eighth annual Light-Up Night.
Santa Claus, raffles, hot chocolate and the Christmas spirit will be on hand for the event, sponsored by the Youngwood Area Business Association.
The event begins at 6 p.m. on Depot Street between Third and Fourth streets, with the lighting ceremony starting at 6:45 p.m.
“The Annual Light Up Night Event is one that started 8 years ago. It is the official start of the holiday season and it is free event for the community to come and enjoy a good old-fashion light up night in our business district,” said Ed Christofano, owner of Hayden’s Pharmacy and chairman of the Light-Up committee. This is a free event for the entire community to attend and it is expected the event will draw over 450 people this year.
“This event takes a lot of planning and orchestrating since we are closing a busy street in our business district. From vendors providing free foods, music, Santa’s arrival on the Youngwood Fire Department Truck, and more …. It is all worth it to see the magic in the eyes of our parents and the huge smiles on the faces of our children.” Christofano said.
