PRESS RELEASE FROM: Award Ceremony, APhA National Convention 2009 Ed Christofano is the recipient of the 2009 American Pharmacist Association Immunization Award Individual Practitioner Honorable Mention award because he has made such a significant impact in his local community. He has been recognized by local physicians for the scope of the immunization services he provides. In fact, he was nominated for this award by a local physician that recognized the value Ed brings to the local health care community. This national award is one of five that were presented APhA Convention.
A native of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Ed is a graduate of The Ohio State University, College of Pharmacy, in Columbus, Ohio. Ed decided to change his professional practice from corporate management to individual community service. Along with his wife Kristin, together they operate an independent pharmacy that truly serves the community with individual patient care and customer service being the foundation of the business. Hayden's Pharmacy ~ A Division of Christofano Associates ~ serves the rural community of Youngwood, Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. This is one of area's few full-service pharmacies that offers true apothecary services with the ability to compound prescriptions in a pharmacy laboratory. "Our pharmacy is a true 'throw-back' to the days where your pharmacist personally knew each patient and offered sound pharmaceutical advice. We treat each customer and patient with respect and truly care about their health care. Hayden's Pharmacy customers can be assured the quality and tradition of personalized pharmacy service is the foundation of our business. With the recent change in the State of Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy practice laws, came the birth of the Hayden's Pharmacy Immunization Clinic. Ed received his state certification through the APhA Immunization Training and Certification Program offered at the Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy. The Hayden's Pharmacy Immunization Clinic offers traditional immunization services to patients. The majority of immunizations given are Influenza, Pneumonia, and the newly released Shingles vaccine. In the retail pharmacy store, an immunization room was built to accommodate the private and personal setting necessary to successfully operate the clinic. The operations of immunizations are integrated with computer technology for proper documentation, communication with prescribing physicians, and follow up notes post-immunization. This documentation is handled through a computer reporting system specifically designed for the Hayden's Pharmacy Immunization Clinic. Since its opening in July of 2008, the Hayden's Pharmacy Immunization Clinic has administered over 900 flu and pneumonia vaccines and approximately 400 Zostavax (Shingles vaccine). This facility actively seeks third party reimbursement for clinical services provided. Other clinic services also include; blood pressure management, diabetes education sessions, cholesterol and diet consultations, and other disease state education services. A unique service that Hayden's provides is the ability for patients to register for immunization appointments online on the internet or by phone.
The scheduling of immunization appointments allows Ed to designate time for filling prescriptions on the retail end and also enables him to have quality time with his patients. This outstanding scheduling process services the elderly population who might have difficulty waiting in a traditional immunization clinic line for hours. It is all part of the unique pharmaceutical service available at Hayden's Pharmacy. For more information - go to www.haydenspharmacy.com
